1960 November - 1993 December

Dad started at the Warrington Guardian in November 1960 and retired after more than 25 years of service through all the changes to Cheshire County Newspaper and The Messenger Group.  He saw the paper move from being printed using metal type carefully counted out in cases with leads and 'm's and 'n's to computer printing when it was a main frame in its own room before finally being printed via desktop computers.

What dad couldn't sell wasn't worth having.  If he believed in something he could readily convince you it was a good thing.  He was a great salesman, finding just the right phrase to nudge the sale from concept to reality.  He refused several promotions because he prioritised his family.  However, he did become the Area Sales Manager and oversaw the staff who were 'front of house'.  He was much appreciated as he sought to support staff and draw the best out of them.  He enjoyed his work.
