Learnt to play the cornet

It was Arthur's headmaster who instilled a love of classical music into him.  Dad was not convinced at the time as a young teenager but he lived to prove his headmaster right!  He began with learning the cornet and then progressed to other brass instruments.  The Trombone was his favourite though.

He was part of Burbage Brass Band, Buxton and played in many dance bands in Peterborough.  His music playing ability enabled him to get out of active service in the Army as he put his talent to good use in the Army band Kings Royal Irish Hussars.  It was still a demanding schedule but as ever, with musicians, there was a great camarderie.
