Dad became very proficient on the Trombone and played in the Burbage Brass Band in Buxton for years as a teenager.  He remembers playing carols on Christmas Day walking in feet of snow from The Square in Buxton out to the outlying farms where they would be welcomed in for some Christmas lunch.

One memorable story is of his trombone slide getting caught in the safety curtain as it was raised!  The whole performance was halted whilst they brought the curtain back down so dad could retrieve his slide!

When he moved to Peterborough, he played in the Peterborough Palais Band.  He fundraised to get the band into new, smarter looking uniform. He had positive write-ups in the Peterborough Advertiser.  He was much sought after as a trombonist and would often do a full day's work and then be out playing in the evening.  He played in the Kenny Colson Brass Band.

He enjoyed the jazz music as well as the classical pieces - although in the latter he would often have to concentrate very hard to count all the bars of rest that a trombonist had before coming in loud and clear!

In retirement he played with the Music and Worship Foundation in Oxford in concerts that played a range of oratorios.
